Hi! I’m Jenn. I’m in my 30’s and live in Connecticut. I am a library manager in an urban public library, where I run a department focusing on supporting entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and makers. I love to read but ended up not reading a whole heck of a lot while pursuing my 2 master’s degrees. Now that I’m done, I am trying to make up for lost time!
When I’m not spending time at the library, I enjoy spending time with my husband, baby, and 2 cats; watching crime tv (fiction AND documentary); and trying and failing at cooking new foods!
While I currently work with adults, middle-grade books have a special place in my heart. My first full-time public library position was as a children’s librarian. I was also a member of the 2023 Intermediate Nutmeg Committee, and I am co-chair of the 2024 Intermediate Nutmeg Committee! We focused on middle-grade books for grades 4-6. Per the bylaws, I am not allowed to talk about the books the 2024 cohort reviewed at this time. That being said, I can talk about 2023 books since that list has been made public. You might see a few of those pop up occasionally!
My preferred way of reading is definitely a physical book, but audiobooks have grown on me in the past few years. This was especially true last year when I was reading over 100 middle-grade books. Having the ability to listen to adult audiobooks helped me keep my sanity! I do understand the benefit of E-books (I have a Kindle, and use it predominantly when traveling) but nothing compares to the feeling of a physical book.
I tend to read all types of fiction from sci-fi to smut, classic to contemporary. I am not the biggest fan of non-fiction since it reminds me too much of when I was in school. That being said, once in a while, you will see me pick up a non-fiction title. Be prepared that it might take me 6 months before I get to review it though.
I really hope that this blog does not cover all of the same titles as other blogs. While I’m totally cool with being on the bandwagon, I don’t want you all to get sick of hearing about the same books all the time. Also, if there is a book you’d like me to review, or if you agree/disagree with my assessment of a title, I’d love to hear from you!
Happy reading!
